ERMCDO goes solar; joins NGP

As part of the University’s carbon-neutral initiatives, the Environment Resource Management and Campus Development Office's (ERMCDO) lighting system is now solar-powered.

The solar panels and its paraphernalia together with the LED lamps were donated by Greenpeace Southeast Asia as part of the Sustainable Campus Project grant given to the school as a partner of the environmental organization.

By shifting to solar power, the school will be able save at least P3,000 annually from electricity use and reduce the University’s carbon footprint by about 11, 855 kilos (11.85 metric tonnes) per year.

Meanwhile, DLSU-D, representing the academe, witnessed last June 22, 2012 the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between the DENR and local government units of Cavite for the national government’s National Greening Program which aims to plant more than a billion trees by 2016.

The activity was preceded by a mangrove planting activity in Kawit, Cavite that was joined by DLSU-D, DepEd, DILG, DENR, Philippine Navy, Philippine Bottlers Inc., and Phil. Army. DLSU-D was represented by Marlon Pareja of ERMCDO and Ms. Cherry Cuevas, chair of BSD-COS. (Photos by Mei Idlao, MBCO-DENR)
