DLSU-D and Universitas Kadiri Hold Mirror Class on Digital English Communication

October 28, 2026

De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) and Universitas Kadiri in Indonesia brought students and faculty members together for an online lecture on digital English communication, examining how language, tone, and identity shape interactions across cultural and academic settings.

Organized by the College of Liberal Arts and Communication (CLAC) of DLSU-D in partnership with Universitas Kadiri, the session formed part of the Mirror Class Series, an academic exchange initiative that connects learners and educators from both institutions through shared online learning experiences.

The lecture, titled “Reading Tone and Identity in Digital English: From Group Chats to Academic Communication,” was delivered by Muhammad Maftukhan, S.S., M.Hum., CPS, a faculty member of Universitas Kadiri. Held via Zoom, the session examined how English communication varies across informal group chats, social media interactions, and formal academic and professional settings.

Participants discussed how context, intended audience, and cultural interpretation influence the meaning conveyed in digital exchanges. The session emphasized the importance of recognizing linguistic nuances when communicating online, where tone and identity may be interpreted differently across cultural and social contexts.

The Mirror Class Series supports international academic engagement by giving students access to perspectives and teaching practices from partner institutions. Through the ongoing collaboration, DLSU-D and Universitas Kadiri provide opportunities for cross-cultural dialogue and help students develop communication skills relevant to an increasingly interconnected academic and professional environment.
