DLSU-D Builds International Academic Partnership Through Virtual Faculty Exchange

De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) brought together 78 participants for a virtual lecture on the Teaching of Reading with Kadiri University (Universitas Kadiri) of Indonesia, initiating an academic collaboration in English Language and Literature. Organized through the Linkages Office, headed by Director Dr. Irene Gueco, and the Languages and Literature Department (LLD), the exchange is being considered as the foundation for a sustained Faculty Exchange Program.

Led by Mr. Raymond Peter D. Ibasco of DLSU-D, the Zoom session covered reading comprehension, reading strategies, and schema building. Participants included 58 students and 20 faculty members from Kadiri University’s Faculties of Engineering, Economics and Business, and Health, as well as one student from the State University of Surabaya and 10 participants from DLSU-D.

Post-session evaluation results indicated that respondents agreed the exchange's objectives were clearly presented and achieved. Participants described the lecture as useful to their professional growth, clear in delivery, and facilitated by a knowledgeable speaker.

Faculty members reported gaining new approaches to motivating learners and teaching reading, while students valued the opportunity to engage in an international learning experience. Participants also requested follow-up sessions on digital literacy, artificial intelligence in education, and effective reading strategies, recommending more interactive activities and practical examples.

Ibasco said the exchange “shows what Lasallian education can do when it reaches beyond its own walls.” 
 

The successful exchange marks a promising step toward stronger academic ties between DLSU-D and Kadiri University, opening opportunities for continued faculty collaboration, knowledge sharing, and cross-cultural learning.
