DLSU-D LLD Linguistics Research Event Draws More Than 600 Online Registrants

October 30, 2026

More than 600 individuals registered online for De La Salle University-Dasmariñas Language and Literature Department Research Proposals Presentation held on October 28, 2026. The hybrid event featured a guest lecture on language practices and proposed interdisciplinary research initiatives involving several university colleges.

Organized by LLD in partnership with the University Research Office (URO) and the College of Professional and Graduate Studies (CPGS), the presentation brought together faculty members, students, and online registrants to discuss research directions and opportunities for collaboration across academic disciplines.

The program featured a lecture by Nicanor L. Guinto, PhD, director of the Office of Research Services and Full Professor III at Southern Luzon State University. Titled “Free and Freeing Linguistics,” his lecture challenged prescriptive approaches to language, linguistic hierarchies, and teaching practices that do not account for how students actually use language.

The presentation also featured research proposals developed in collaboration with the College of Education (COE), College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM), and College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT). Among these were a proposed language policy for DLSU-D, a documentary project on Cavite heritage cuisine in Filipino, and the translation of the Philippine Building Code or BP 220-related socialized housing guidelines into Filipino.

These proposed initiatives connect language and literature research with institutional policy, education, cultural heritage, and technical disciplines. Through the projects, LLD seeks to strengthen interdisciplinary partnerships and develop research that responds to institutional and community needs.
