Mr. Edwin Bautista

Mr. Edwin R. Bautista is a highly respected leader in the Philippine banking industry, known for his steadfast commitment to protecting the banking public and ensuring their satisfaction through the successful digital transformation of the institutions he has led. His visionary leadership has consistently positioned Philippine banks as trailblazers in digital innovation, earning him recognition both locally and internationally.

His journey of excellence began during his university years at De La Salle University, where he captained the DLSU Debating Team to a national championship in 1981. He was honored with the Brother Gabriel Connon Award as Most Outstanding Graduate and received the Gold Medal for Best Thesis, underscoring his academic brilliance. Bautista later served as a faculty member at the College of Engineering and as Director of the Placement Office, contributing to the University’s academic and professional development initiatives.

With more than three decades of experience in financial services, his career spans digital finance, treasury and risk management, investment banking, and global transaction services. He served as President and CEO of UnionBank of the Philippines from 2016 to 2024, where he led a major digital transformation that included the establishment of UnionDigital Bank and the fintech venture studio UBX, after earlier holding senior posts as Chief Operating Officer and Senior Executive Vice President. He previously served as President and CEO of International Exchange Bank and as Senior Vice President and Group Head of Global Transaction Banking at Citibank N.A.

In his professional career, Bautista has been celebrated with numerous accolades, including the Best Banking CEO Award (2018) from the European Global Banking and Finance Awards and the Best Banking CEO of the Year in Asia from International Banker. His contributions to banking and digital transformation have likewise been recognized by The Asset, IDC Asia Pacific, Corporate Governance Asia, and International Investor Magazine.

To further enrich his expertise, Bautista completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2011, equipping him with global perspectives and advanced strategies in finance and management. His continuous pursuit of knowledge reflects his dedication to staying ahead in a rapidly evolving industry.

Today, Mr. Bautista serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Philippine National Bank (PNB), a position he has held since April 29, 2025. Under his leadership, PNB delivered a record net income of ₱25.3 billion in 2025, up 20 percent year-on-year, with return on equity improving to 11.1 percent, while advancing a transformation agenda centered on technology and innovation, customer experience, and sustainable growth. In 2026, PNB was named Domestic Retail Bank of the Year – Philippines and received the Financial Inclusion Initiative of the Year – Philippines award at the Asian Banking & Finance Awards, and was cited as Best for Research – Philippines at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence.

He has also held leadership roles in key industry organizations, including the Philippine Clearing House Corporation, where he served as Chairman; BancNet, as Treasurer; and the Bankers Association of the Philippines, as Executive Committee Member and Treasurer. His multifaceted leadership continues to shape the future of Philippine banking, inspiring innovation, resilience, and excellence across the sector.
