Mhel Christian Ang, the vice president of Campus Sustainability Office's student auxiliary group LS Verde recently earned an honorable mention award during the Asia World Model United Nation II held in Bangkok, Thailand.
Ang, a 4th year BS Biology major in Environmental Science student, represented DLSU-D during the Asia World Model United Nation event with the theme: “The World’s Dilemma: Enhancing World Action on Climate Change.” The event was attended by close to 1,400 representatives of different schools who are expected to become future leaders in their respective nations.
The AWMUN is an event that seeks to enhance capabilities and encourage young leaders to develop a network among other institutions in the region. During the event, student leaders participated in a grand symposium focused on international issues on climate change and multiculturalism.
Delegates also took part in meeting sessions about the Unequal Burden of Rising Temperature in Low-Income Countries with the end goal of coming up with a resolution to be adopted by the AWMUN IMF which they successfully completed by the end of the discussion. Students also participated in a Bangkok City Tour, a Cultural Performance Night and the awarding for Best Delegate, Honorable Mention, Best Position Paper, Most Outstanding Delegate and Verbal Commendation.
“I thank God that I received an award because I said my goal was just to share my thoughts as an Environmental Science student. To think that I was honored with an award among the 1,326 delegates, new passion emerged in me to educate and share to others what they do not know about the state and situation of our world today in line of our battle with environmental issues,” Ang said in his post event report. “I share this greatest pleasure and honor with my Alma Mater and family. To God be all the glory. Animo!”
DLSP LIFE under Director Warren Dollente sponsored the plane ticket of Ang while OSS Director Arch. Antonio Gutierrez personally donated $50 of the student's pocket money.
