TO THE DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY DASMARIÑAS COMMUNITY
SUBJECT: BE THE CHANGE, GO OUT and VOTE!
The midterm national and local elections will take place in a few days. Let us all go out and vote. It is our right. More importantly, our moral responsibility!
As we each prepare to exercise our solemn duty as a citizen of this country duly registered to vote, allow me to invite you to take time to pray and discern that when we cast our votes, we will heed our conscience and our hope for this country to have genuine leaders whose only orientation is the common good.
As an educational institution, we also look to the future as an important element in our ministry of accompanying the many young people entrusted to us. It is the same future that we must also treat with much respect and care. To this end, I am confident that as Lasallians, we will take this election – a key factor in figuring out the kind of future we envision for our young people - as our opportunity to live out what we believe in: that if change were to happen, it would have to begin with each and every one of us. And, our sacred vote cast, would be a perfect embodiment of what we aspire for.
As a democratic country, there is in every one of us, a responsibility to make sure that our democratic institutions are able to function, free from any influence that would jeopardize national interests. We must have morally upright, independent-minded lawmakers and local executives whose integrity, wisdom, propriety, and sense of genuine public service have been proven, or are beyond reproach. We have a moral obligation to make this happen. Bear in mind as well, that this election is our fair chance to tell the world that we are a country whose people recognize that in their hands, lay their destiny as a nation.
Let us then go out and vote. Vote wisely and prayerfully, we should! Let us vote for the future of the generation our Lord has asked us to journey with.
I shall also be asking my prayer partners to accompany each one of us with their prayers on the day we each express our personal hope for this country by way of our sacred ballot.
May 13, 2019 will be the Feast of the Our Lady of Fatima. May She intercede for us in our prayer on that day!
Maraming salamat! God bless you! Sincerely,
Br. Gus Boquer FSC
