De La Salle University-Dasmariñas joins the nation in celebrating National Teachers’ Month from September 5 to October 5, 2019.
As declared by the Department of Education, this year’s theme “Gurong Pilipino: Handa sa Makabagong Pagbabago,” seeks to highlight the skills and competencies of teachers to meet the challenges of teaching in the digital age.
Based on DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2019-139, the National Teachers’ Month movement started as a small group in 2008 with the simple mission of expressing gratitude to all Filipino teachers.
However, with support from various sectors, the advocacy grew into a nationwide movement and has become the longest celebration of National Teachers’ Day in the world.
As such, local government units and educational institutions nationwide are enjoined to conduct special activities and events to celebrate the contributions of educators in the shaping of the next generation of leaders and innovators of the Philippines.
In 2011, Presidential Proclamation No. 242 declared September 5 to October 5 of every year as National Teachers’ Month. Republic Act No. 10743 declared October 5 of every year as National Teachers’ Day.
