De La Salle University-Dasmarinas alum Arvin Belarmino, with his award-winning feature film "Ria", was the only Filipino director selected to be part of the 44th Cinéfondation – Residence du Festival Programme of the Cannes Festival in France.
Belarmino, who graduated from DLSU-D’s BS IT program in 2010, was the only Asian filmmaker to be chosen as part of the prestigious program which will run from March 1 to July 15, this year.
The Résidence du Festival program is considered a unique opportunity for participants as it provides a personalized guide to filmmakers in the development and production of their films. It also features forums and seminars where participants can learn from industry professionals.
"Ria" was previously recognized with a Special Mention Award at the 2021 Talents Tokyo competition. Belarmino’s previous works "Nakaw" won as the Best Short Film in the 40th Gawad Urian while another film "Tarang" received the Berlin Brandenburg Short Award for Best Film at the 36th Interfilm Berlin Short Film Festival.
Apart from the benefits of the Cannes residency, the filmmaker will also be receiving assistance from the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) International Film Studies Assistance Program (IFSAP) for his participation in the program.
