De La Salle University–Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) recently conducted a two-day Research Ethics Workshop for members of its Research Ethics Committee (REC), reinforcing the University’s commitment to ethical and responsible research practices.
The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Carl Abelardo T. Antonio, who led discussions on the protection of human participants, national ethical guidelines, and the critical role of research ethics committees in safeguarding research integrity. Participants also explored topics such as risk-benefit assessment, participant vulnerability, informed consent—including emerging considerations related to artificial intelligence—and issues of justice in research, such as equitable participant selection and community engagement.
The second day focused on practical applications of research ethics. REC members reviewed sample informed consent forms and evaluated research protocols under Dr. Antonio’s guidance, allowing them to apply ethical principles to real-world research scenarios.
Through initiatives such as this workshop, DLSU-D continues to strengthen its culture of research excellence and integrity by equipping ethics reviewers with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure that research is conducted responsibly and in accordance with established ethical standards.
