Ms. Chloe Mhabel Chavez, CTHM student and AGAPAY Student Implementer, presented De La Salle University-Dasmariñas' service-learning program before student delegates from across Asia and Oceania at the Service Learning Student Summit (SLSS) 2026 on August 4, 2026 at the University of Saint Joseph in Macau.
Her presentation traced Adhikaing Ganap para sa Yaring Kabuhayan (AGAPAY), the service-learning program of the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM), from its beginnings through its community engagements and student experiences to its continuing work of turning hospitality education into livelihood opportunities for partner communities.
Ms. Chavez described how AGAPAY gives students the setting to apply classroom knowledge, creativity, and entrepreneurship in actual communities. The program builds professional competencies alongside a sense of social responsibility and solidarity with the communities it serves.
The summit gathered student leaders and service-learning advocates from institutions across the region, placing the Lasallian practice of learning through service in conversation with models from other universities. Ms. Chavez returned to the same venue the following day, August 5, when AGAPAY won first place in the Uniservitate Awards 2026 for Asia and Oceania.
The presentation marks a milestone for AGAPAY as the program continues to widen its reach, and for DLSU-D students who carry the University's service-learning experience to an international audience.
