Carlos, Abunda stage successful seminars

Film and television director Rahyan Carlos and award winning talk show host, talent manager and publicist Boy Abunda impressed participants at their successful seminars held at the Tanghalang Julian Felipe as part of the COMPACT 2012 celebrations led by the Communications Arts Department.

Carlos, a freelance film and television director and writer, shared his inspiring journey into the industry and imparted tips for aspiring writers, actors and filmmakers in his seminar entitled Making It in Film and Television. Carlos, who works as a part time faculty member of the CAD, also brought along actress and Star Circle quest alumna Roxanne Guinoo, who used to study at DLSU-D before she embarked on an acting career.

Another industry heavyweight also shared his wisdom with Communication students and faculty and other participants at the seminar entitled: Branding the Stars: Starstruck to Stardom.

Mr. Boy Abunda wears many hats as the multi-awarded host of showbiz oriented talk show The Buzz as well as interview feature show Bottomline. He also took over the live celebrity interviews for late night news telecast Bandila. During his talk, Abunda inspired his audiences with his humble beginnings and connected his career development to the concept of branding, in which audiences were captivated by his wisdom and practical experience.

“I enjoyed the seminars because I could really use what I learned today from them. They inspired me to work harder to achieve my goals,” one of the participants said after the seminar.

Other events for the COMPACT include a fashion show, film festival, debate and cheer dance competition to highlight its theme: Communication Impact on Entertainment and Leisure.

The local government is stepping up its drive against unhygienic practices and illegal obstructions as it begins to fine violators to ordinances on spitting and urinating in public, and parking along main roads.

Based on an order by the City GOvernment of Dasmariñas, a penalty of P2,500 will be imposed on those who will be caught erecting structures such as stalls and home extensions, or encroaching on public sidewalks with signages, tables, plants or contruction materials. The same fee will be charged to those caught littering, spitting, expelling mucus, urinating or defecating on sidewalks within the muncipality.

CLA Alumni Homecoming and Outreach a big hit

The recently concluded DLSU-D Alumni Homecoming and Outreach Activity entitled "Tara Na! Uwi Muna! 11 batches. 11 years of CLA," was a huge success with a turnout of close to a hundred people who shared their time to revisit the alma mater and opened their pockets to donate to the Bahay Pag Asa transformative facility for children in conflict with the law.

Along with fellow DLSU-D alumna Mayor Jenny Barzaga who donated 60 packs of medicine kits for the first residents of Bahay Pag Asa come June, CLA alumni also pooled in for donations in cash and in kind, amounting to an estimated P7,000. Other sponsors include Vogue Shots for the photo booth, and Viviamo, Inc. which provided raffle prizes (planners) for all of the attendees.

According to CLA Alumni Association President Dennis Maldo, the event is only the first in a series of worthwhile activities aimed at sharing the essence of being a true Lasallian to the less fortunate.

"The beauty of being united is that we can do more than what we have achieved. Thanks to all who supported the activity. The credit goes to all CLA alumni who want to do more to the university and to their fellow alumni if there is a great opportunity to do so. Maraming Pong Salamat!" he said.
