The Mathematics and Statistics Department (MSD), in cooperation with the Applied Mathematics Program Council (AMPC), will hold its 7th Math Month Celebration on November 19-22 during the Students’ Week.

Qualifications
The contest is open to all bona fide DLSU-D students enrolled on the 1st semester, A.Y. 2019-2020.
II. Coverage
Statistics Quiz bee shall cover statistics and its application in general.
Board of Judges
The board of judges shall consist of three members, all of whom are selected by the Organizing Committee.
Registration
- Use the url link http://tiny.cc/StatQuizBee2019 to register online.
- Only the first 40 teams who accomplished online registration will be accommodated.
- Walk-in participants will only be allowed if the maximum number of teams has not yet met.
- No registration fee will be collected from participants.
Elimination
- Elimination round will start at exactly 9:00AM on November 19, 2019. Venue: COS Rooms. Names of the participants will be posted on their respective rooms.
- All participants will be given 40 questions which will be solved in 1 hour. Each item is worth one point and all participants are requested to bring their own scientific calculator.
- The top 15 participants will move to the final round.
- The list of finalists will be announced in the Mathematics and Statistics Department’s bulletin board on the same day at 1pm.
Final Round
- The final round will start on the same day at 1:30 p.m. at FCH 106 and 107.
- The distribution of points and time allotment will be as follows:

Qualifications
The contest is open to all bona fide DLSU-D students enrolled on the 1st semester, A.Y. 2019-2020 and faculty of DLSU-D. Participants must form a team composed of two students and one faculty.
Components and Coverage
- The contest is an oral competition on GENERAL INFORMATION where the answers are NUMBERS.
- A total of 20 questions will be asked. The quizmaster will read each question twice. Contestants may already start writing their answer while the question is being read.
- Teams are provided with answer board, marker and eraser. Answers must be written legibly on the answer board and must be raised after 10 seconds.
- Each correct answer is worth 1 point for questions 1 to 19. No deductions are given for incorrect or no answers.
- Before question 20, the teams will decide to wager any point up to their current score. Correctly answering question #20 earns the team the amount of their wager, but failing to answer correctly , the team loses the entire wager.
- Teams will write their wagers on a piece of paper provided by the organizers, then submitted to the board of judges. The judges will announce each team’s wager after question 20 is answered.
- The top three teams at the end of the round will be declared as winners. Prizes await the winners.
- To break a tie, a do-or-die question will be asked. The first team to raise the board with the correct answer will earn the point.

- A team will be disqualified if not all team members are present before the start of the contest proper.
- False information submitted to the committee would mean disqualification of the team.
- Anyone caught cheating will also be disqualified.
Prizes
- All participants shall be given certificates of participation.
- Cash prize and medals will be awarded to the winners.

Contest Proper Guidelines
- The participants should assemble in front of COS Building Lobby by 12:30 p.m. to confirm their registration. Teams will be given a passport to monitor their progress.
- The contest has 6 challenge locations, called pit stops, scattered at different locations around the East campus. Each challenge maybe in a form of math puzzle/riddle or logic game.
- At each stop, an assigned MSD faculty (pit stop captain) is responsible for coordinating the challenge and clues for that location. When a team arrives at a pit stop, the captain will give the team the written details on the challenge to be completed.
- At any time, once the team successfully completes the challenge, the team’s passport will be marked with a checkmark for that particular challenge.
- Each pit stop will serve as elimination for the next challenge. At each pit stop, the number of teams to advance will be trimmed down based on the best times.

There will be two (2) components of the competition namely; the elimination round and the final round. The coverage of the quiz bee includes topics in:
- Algebra,
- Trigonometry,
- Statistics,
- Geometry,
- Business Mathematics, and
- Logic

IV. Registration

Elimination
- Elimination round is scheduled on November 20, 2019, at 9 – 11am in COS building. Names of the participants will be posted on their respective rooms.
- All participants will be given 40 problems to be solved in one hour. Each item is worth one point and no calculators will be used in the contest.
- The top 15 groups will move to the final round.
- The list of finalists will be announced in the Mathematics and Statistics Department’s bulletin board on the same day at 1pm.
Final Round
- The final round will be held on the same day at FCH 106 and 107.
- This is an oral test, categorized into easy round with ten (10) questions, average round with seven (7) questions, and difficult round consisting of five (5) questions. The distribution of points and time allotment will be as follows:
- Use of calculators is not allowed but participants will be provided with scratch papers.
- The quizmaster will read each question twice while the question is flashed on the screen. The participants may start answering after the first reading of the question using the provided scratch papers. Once the timer stops, the quizmaster will instruct each contestant to raise their boards and must not put their boards down until their respective answers have been read and recognized by the quizmaster.
- All final answers must be written legibly, properly labelled, in simplest form, and with correct units as the question requires. Otherwise, the answers will be considered incorrect.
- In case of a tie, a tie breaking question will be asked. The first participant that will get the correct answer within the allotted time will earn the corresponding point.
- At the end of the final round, the top three groups will be declared Champion, 1st Runner Up, and 2nd Runner Up, respectively.
