Oratorio

During the time of the Spaniards, rich families made sure that there is an oratorio or prayer room in their bahay na bato. Families would gather at the oratorio to pray the Angelus together in front of the altar.

In honor of San Jose, the oratorio of Museo de La Salle features a life-size image of Saint Joseph, the Santos-Joven-Panlilio family’s patron saint, and the images of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Silver candelabras or candleholders and liturgical frames adorn the 1870s altar with Dutch gilt metal mountings. A silver sanctuary-lamp hangs low from the green ceiling made of original stamped tin sheets imported from Belgium. An exquisite wooden Gold Lead Wooden Column, an architectural ceiling alcove, with hand-painted canvas ceiling, is set above the Santos to accentuate the main altar, flanked by authentic Kraut stained-glass windows. Hand-painted murals depict different scenes in the life of Saint Joseph.
