The Zaguan, an Arabic term for passageway. It is the ground floor space of the house, which normally has several rooms that serve as storage for carrozas or processional floats for saints, grain harvest, and old furniture. Museo de La Salle’s Zaguan area holds three 19th century carrozas.
The bodegas on either side of the passageway serve as storage spaces for grain harvest, old furniture and broken implements.
A huge puerta mayor (main door), are normally fully opened only to pull out the carrozas or andas for procession during fiestas, and leads guests into the zaguan through the smaller postigos (pedestrian doors).
Now, these now function as offices and exhibition galleries. Currently, the Zaguan is used as a venue for book launchings, lectures and live performances.
