PATUBIG: Cavite’s Heritage Irrigation System highlights the vital role of water in shaping Cavite’s agricultural landscapes, communities, and history. Through archival maps, engineering plans, historical photographs, and field documentation from the Archivo Histórico Nacional and the Cesar Virata Collection of the Cavite Studies Center, the exhibition traces the development of irrigation networks across the former friar estates of Imus, San Franciso de Malabon, Santa Cruz de Malabon, and Naic. These dams, aqueducts, canals, and tunnels, transformed the province’s environment, sustained agricultural production and supported generations of Caviteños whose livelihoods depended on the careful management of the flowing waters.

Many of these historic irrigation structures now lie hidden, altered, or endangered by rapid urbanization and neglect. By bringing these overlooked hydraulic landscapes into public memory, the exhibition invites visitors to appreciate irrigation systems as significant cultural heritage—living reminders of the enduring relationship between water, agriculture, and community life in Cavite, and of the collective effort needed to preserve this legacy for future generations.
