Nuestra Señora de Salvacion

Description

Wooden carved image of the Nuestra Señora del Salvacion. She holds in tow of her right hand is soul snatched from the gates of hell depicted through the carved relief of a devil's face at the innermost side of the base. An angel at her left stood with a basketful of hearts offered to the Child Jesus she carries. Hovering above her head are two (2) angels with both hands raised upwards, probably holding a crown. The Virgin wears a necklace with a crucifix. Her tunic was secured with a band at her waist and her mantle has an inner red lining done in estofaco of floral design simulating a brocade.

This item is part of the DM Guevara Collection which pays tribute to the Filipino artisans of the past two centuries. Comprising of both fine furniture collections and folk implements, the collection highlights Western and Asian influences that are exquisite and functionally Filipino. The DM Guevara Collection was put together by the family matriarch Carmen S. Guevara for the Museo ng Buhay Pilipino in 1979.
