Description

Conceived during 19th century France, the Courting Chair is typically comprised of two chairs facing opposite directions so that the couple could converse without truly touching since there is a chaperone nearby to make sure that they did not do anything unseemly. This type of furniture was designed to fit in with the house’s décor or theme. Its intricate carved woodwork and elements often reflect the status of the rich families.

The true backstory of the conversation is not entirely romantic. Its former title was ‘le confidant’, indicating that it was originally intended for confidential conversations; between political confidants, for example.
