Description

A local but elegant version of a Victorian horsehair sofa is locally known as mariposa due to its butterfly-shaped back. The caned backrest is framed with fluted C-scrolls surmounted by a carved base in the middle. The seat is also caned. The cabriole legs elegantly culminate in a scroll design that beautifully mirrors the curvature found at the ends of the armrests.

This item is part of Museo de La Salle’s Santos Joven Panlilio collection which boasts of antique turn-of the-century furniture and decorative furnishings from the family’s ancestral home in Bacolor, Pampanga. Some pieces were collected through the years by art connoisseur, antique collector and interior designer Jose Ma. Ricardo Panlilio, the museum’s founding director.
