Tipid Tips for the Holidays

To a Lonely Place to Pray

Holidays can be a nightmare on your budget if you’re not careful. The season of festivities entails a lot of cost from preparing for holiday get togethers, gift giving, vacations and whatnot.

It’s a time to splurge after months of saving up but there can be ways to still have fun and not break the bank. Here’s how:

  Do a price check (canvass).

With most of the shopping going online, there are plenty of options and ideas for gifts, and supplies that are available with a simple click of a button. Search for the items you want and add them to your cart but make sure you compare prices and read the reviews at the same time. As you formulate your budget, also factor in the delivery charge (It’s better to get free shipping) to your computation to see if you’re getting the best value for the items.

  Take note of promotions.

Save up on vouchers and coupons and take note of special dates for promotions. Timing your purchases to maximize these promos will do wonders for your budget.

  Cook rather than order.

Ordering food is definitely a hassle-free alternative to cooking at home but it is also a more expensive option. You are paying for the convenience after all. If you want to save on food, get a member (or several members of your family) to help you with the food prep to make it easier and more fun. Make a bonding activity out of it.

  Handmade gifts.

Rather than spend a ton on purchased gifts, make your gifts more meaningful by handing out personally crafted items such as personally crocheted or knitted clothes, handmade cards, craft and artwork. They’re not only a labor of love but they will be the only ones in the world.
