Getting a good night sleep during the pandemic

The pandemic has affected every facet of our lives and this includes getting the proper amount of rest. Sleeping might be simple but for others, it’s a challenge, especially for adults whose sleeping habits are affected by the stress caused COVID-19-related concerns.

According to the Philips Global Sleep Survey 2021, 7 out of 10 of the respondents reported that they were experiencing one or more new sleep challenges since the beginning of the global pandemic. Work from home employees were among those who admitted that their sleeping habits have altered due to stress and anxiety. This weighs heavily on their productivity as getting a good night’s rest is essential for workers to perform well the following day.

If you are experiencing problems with getting a good rest, here are 4 tips to help you along.

  Establish a sleep routine.

Working from the comfort of your home may have disrupted your body clock and regular routine. You might have started the habit of checking emails before going to bed, address a work concern or finish later than your usual sched when you were working on site. Fix your body clock and set up a regular sleeping routine. Schedule personal and family lights off at 9:00 or 10:00 pm then wake up at 6:00 am or 7:00 am the next morning. Teach your body to shut off to get the proper amount of rest.

  Lights off, screen off.

No gadgets for you and the family at least one hour before bedtime. Gadget screens keep you awake. Lessening screen time will increase your chance of getting lesser worries and anxiety about things you must do or accomplish. It will clear up your mind and focus on getting a good night sleep.

  Get some sunshine and exercise.

Working from should not limit you from seeing the sun and staying active. Sunshine influences your circadian rhythm and helps regulate your body clock. Open that window or go to your front yard. Do few exercises before booting up your computer or laptop. It’s a healthy habit that you must try.

  Develop a technique to relax.

Relaxation varies from one person to another. Some would like to listen to good music before sleeping. Others need to have a scented oil inside their room to help them fall asleep. One way or another, relaxation helps you achieve the goal of sleeping well. Try to meditate and keep yourself calm so you won’t have problems getting up in the middle of the night.

The pandemic has caused us many troubles. Let it not take away one of the things we love most – sleeping.
