DLSUD President Br. Francisco “Sockie” dela Rosa VI FSC recently met with Bishop Reynaldo Evangelista DD, Bishop of Diocese of Imus, to personally hand over an image of St. John Baptist de La Salle.
“A promise fulfilled,” said dela Rosa during the meeting initiated by the Office of the Chief Lasallian Mission Officer held last September 26. He further explained that presenting/gifting the Diocese with the image was part of the plan of the De La Salle Brothers for the Death Tercentenary of De La Salle in 2019, the Universal Patron of Teachers .The same year was also declared by Pope Francis as the Lasallian Jubilee Year.
It was in January 2020 when DLSU-D began with the Journey of Faith: St. John Baptist De La Salle Relic Tour in the Diocese. The relic was warmly received by several parishes and parochial schools. The faithful of the Diocese, especially the students and teachers, were allowed to venerate the relic and became more aware of the story of De La Salle. The relic tour, however, was cut short due to the COVID19 pandemic.
“We hope St. La Salle finds a home here, as we have always found a home in the Diocese,” were Br. Sockie’s words as he also gave a commemorative stole with Lasallian symbols to Bishop Rey.
Future engagements between the University and the Diocese were initially discussed during the said meeting. Br. Sockie was joined by DLSU-D’s Chief Administrative Officer, Dr. Marco Saez, University Chaplain, Fr. Reinier Dumaop, and representatives from the three offices under the Mission and Formation Division.
