De La Salle University-Dasmarinas is taking its commitment to Laudato Si seriously. As part as the University’s commitment to Pope Francis’ Encyclical in caring for our common home, animal lovers have banded together to prove that Lasallians don’t only talk the talk. They also walk the walk.
Mobilized by Brother President Francisco “Sockie” dela Rosa VI FSC at the beginning of the second semester, volunteer groups from faculty and employee sector (DLSU-D CATS), college (DLSU-D PAWS), and SHS (NEKO), were consulted on the university’s policy on caring for animals on campus.
Under the proposed policy which will be adopted from the Basic Education department, proper handling and procedures will be adopted, mostly for the campus’ resident cats and feral cats to ensure the safety of both the community members and the animals.
Apart from the university-wide policy, volunteers have also been mobilized to conduct a massive information and education campaign for the members of the community.
An inventory is also under way for campus animals so they may be included in the anti-rabies, and spay and neutering campaign of the university to control the animal population on campus.
