As part of kick off celebrations for the Buwan ng Wika, DLSU-D’s High School Department spearheaded an event entitled: “Kulying: Kultura at Baybaying Pinta” at the Junior High School Complex.
According to Filipino Subject Coordinator Raymond Verana, this year marks the first celebration of Kulying, a competition that seeks to showcase Pinoy culture and baybayin script painted on human canvass.
Verana said.
Fifty five students participated in the competition wherein students were divided into “houses” with two painters, two assistants, and one human canvass per group.
The concept of the competition, according to Verana, is not limited to the theme of the event but rather seeks for participants to explore the vastness of Filipino culture. Each group was given an hour and a half to complete their work. They were also given two minutes per group to explain their piece.
The results for the Kulying will be announced on September 11, in time with the Mutya ng Wika event at the Ugnayang La Salle.
