During the Gawad Sinag 2024 Awards honoring outstanding faculty members of DLSU-D, Senior High School teacher Alyssa Karen D. Acal made history as the first recipient of the Br. Andrew Gonzalez FSC Teacher Award for Excellence.
The award, established in honor of Brother Andrew Gonzalez, FSC, the first President of De La Salle University–Dasmarinas and first De La Salle Brother to be appointed as Secretary of the Department of Education, is given to the DLSU-D Basic Education Unit Teacher who exemplifies excellence in work, innovation in teaching, and selfless character to serve and nurture students.
In her humble and emotional speech, Acal dedicated her achievement to the people who continued to inspire her to become an even better educator as part of her Lasallian journey.
“This recognition, in itself, is not for me, because this concept of excellence was not achieved by myself alone. This recognition represents all the people who contributed to who I am right now, everyone I learned from, everyone I taught, and everyone who made a difference in my life one way or another,” she said.
“A teacher is always a student. I always think of it every single day. Thank you for allowing me to continue learning and teaching, thank you for continuously inspiring me to live,” she added.
Animo La Salle!
