As part of the University’s bid for a zero-carbon campus by 2050, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas is implementing measures to reduce the number of vehicles on campus and temporarily offering free rides to ease traffic congestion during the peak hours.
In two memoranda issued by Brother President Francisco “Sockie” de la Rosa VI FSC, he encouraged the community to leave their cars at home and explore alternative transportation options to support the University’s bid towards producing lesser greenhouse gases.
One of the measures devised by the administration is to temporarily deploy a school vehicle during the peak hours of 8 am -10 am and 3 pm to 5 pm to ply the Ikot La Salle route. Passengers need not pay for the rides as this is a TEMPORARY free service offered to the DLSU-D community.
The University has also announced that there will be an increase in vehicle sticker application fee in an effort to reduce the number of cars entering the campus and the greenhouse gas emissions produced by the vehicles.
“This measure intends to reduce the use and parking of cars on campus and to encourage alternative transportation options for the Lasallian community such as the Ikot La Salle and other vehicles provided by the University. The additional revenue generated from the increase will be used to beef up our bid to improve our existing transportation infrastructure with more sustainable options such as additional units of e-jeeps, electric vehicles, bike lanes, and walkable pathways. The University believes that by reducing car usage, the community can lower greenhouse gas emissions and support DLSU-D's climate action goals. The funds raised will also contribute to green initiatives on campus, such as creating more green spaces and enhancing energy-efficient transit options. We appreciate your understanding as we work towards a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly campus,” Br. Sockie said.
