The Intellectual Property Office of De La Salle University-Dasmarinas (IPOD) received the Gold award in the Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSOs) cluster of the IPOPHIL. The awards ceremony took place on March 18 at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati.
To qualify for awards, institutions must meet specific criteria: bronze (pre-requisite) requires 12 awareness activities, two patent search seminars, and one patent drafting seminar. Silver requires 24 patent searches, while gold requires filing 6 patent applications. Platinum requires the filing of seven patent applications and commercializing one intellectual property (IP) product.
IPOD, with support from the College of Science, Computer Science Department led by Josephine Eduardo, and the College of Engineering and Technology, accomplished 12 awareness activities by integrating four hours of IP topics into the syllabi. IPOD also conducted patent search seminars guided by resident technical expert Zeus Agustin. Additionally, the office filed two patent applications and three utility models during a patent drafting workshop-seminar led by Atty. Jerry Serapion of PhilRice in April 2023.
The Gold Award was accepted by Asst. Vice Chief Administrative Officer for Research Dr. Johnny A. Ching, URO Director Dr. Edwin F. Lineses, and ITSO Manager Dr. Jose Aims R. Rocina during the summit in Makati. The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, under Director-General Atty. Rowel S. Barba, applauded DLSU-D for its accomplishment and urged all ITSOs to strive for the Palladium level, which can be attained after receiving five consecutive platinum awards.
