The De La Salle University-Dasmarinas Patriots emerged as the champs of the 3 x 3 Basketball event at the 21st Asean University Games held in Surabaya, Indonesia. It was an amazing feat not just for the university but for the Philippines since it was the first time the country took the gold in the event.

The Lasallians triumphed over Malaysia in an exciting finals match with a 21-18 score. They also won against Indonesia in the semis.

According to Sports Development Office Director Gerry Sergio, the DLSU-D athletes represented the country in the 3 x 3 event because they were the runners-up in the highly competitive basketball tournament organized by the Philippine University Basketball League. The champions -- Mapua, represented the country for men's basketball.

The ASEAN University Games is a biennial sports event for university athletes from ASEAN member countries. The event is regulated by the ASEAN University Sports Council (AUSC).
