Security Bank Foundation, Inc. (SBFI) and De La Salle Philippines (DLSP) have launched a three-year training program for Junior High School Science teachers aimed at addressing the challenges teachers face in teaching multiple branches of science, such as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
The first phase of the program, "Transforming the Self," was held at De La Salle University Dasmariรฑas and was attended by 30 master and senior-ranked science teachers.
The training included exposure to model laboratories and digital platforms to help students better understand complex science concepts. Teachers also learned to use alternative tools, like the Make-roscope, a portable keychain microscope, to conduct experiments despite the lack of traditional lab equipment. By the end of the training, each teacher developed lesson plans for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, some of which were enhanced and presented to a panel.
The teachers also received educational tools, including microscopes, dissecting kits, and other lab equipment, to help them innovate their teaching methods.
SBFI Chairman Rafael F. Simpao, Jr., acknowledged the challenges faced by science teachers, emphasizing the importance of perseverance in improving the quality of education. The training also included a visit to Bahay Pag-asa, a facility for children in conflict with the law, to highlighting the broader role of educators in society.
