In a letter signed by Br. Francisco “Sockie” de la Rosa VI FSC, President of DLSU-D, the university issued a statement following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
“The arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte on charges of crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court marks a significant step towards accountability,” Br. de la Rosa wrote.
He urged the public to remember the victims of extrajudicial killings during Duterte's war on drugs and to support media outlets like Rappler and ABS-CBN, which faced harassment during his term.
He also called for reflection and prayer, emphasizing the importance of unity and spiritual support in times of national crisis. Duterte's arrest, related to human rights violations from his drug war, marks a critical moment in the international scrutiny of his policies.
DLSU-D’s statement reaffirms the university’s commitment to justice, accountability, and human rights, while encouraging the nation to reflect on the past and pursue healing.
