DLSU-D and the U.S. Embassy conducted a teacher training workshop aimed at strengthening English language education through storytelling.
The event was held at the Ayuntamiento de Gonzales Reception Hall and organized by the university’s Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement and External Relations (OVPGEER), in collaboration with the College of Education and the Department of Education–Dasmariñas City.
The initiative is a collaborative effort between DLSU-D’s Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement and External Relations (OVPGEER), the College of Education, and the Department of Education – City of Dasmariñas. Participants include students from the Professional Education Department, faculty members from DLSU-D’s Basic and Tertiary Education units, and public school teachers from the local DepEd division.
The training, themed “Reflective Pedagogy through Storytelling: Unveiling Cultural Differences and Empowering Student-Centered Teaching,” was facilitated by language education experts Joe Voigts, former Chair of the Department of English at the University of Chicago, and Shelynn Riel, a specialist in English for Academic Purposes and intercultural pedagogy with global teaching experience.
Participants included students from the Professional Education Department, DLSU-D faculty from both basic and tertiary education units, and local public-school teachers under DepEd Dasmariñas.
They engaged in hands-on workshops that emphasized storytelling as a powerful tool for fostering inclusive, student-centered learning.
In addition to the training, U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Office representatives—Jeffrey McIlvenna, Terrance Toledo, and Marco Dalima—met with DLSU-D VP Dr. George Francisco to explore future collaborations.
Their discussions focused on potential fellowship programs, virtual exchanges with U.S. universities, and access to the Open Professional English Network (OPEN).
This initiative reflects DLSU-D’s commitment to empowering educators and enhancing the learning experience for its students through global partnerships and innovative teaching strategies.
