University President Br. Iñigo Riola FSC pointed to the class cancellations of recent weeks as proof that environmental change is already being felt on campus, calling on the Lasallian community to deepen its commitment to sustainability. He delivered the message at the flag ceremony on September 7, led by the Cavite Studies Center and attended by students, faculty, and administrators for prayer, song, and reflection.
Br. Riola framed his remarks around the Season of Creation, the ecumenical observance that runs through October 4. He cited DLSU-D's recognition as the greenest university in the country and the obligations that come with the distinction.
"The class cancellations we experienced in recent weeks remind us that the effects of our changing environment are real. May this strengthen our commitment to sustainability, while also reminding us to remain patient and adaptable," he said.
The University President also turned to the September 8 birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary, noting that the campus chapel is dedicated in her honor. He urged the community to take her humility and openness as a model.
