De La Salle Philippines (DLSP) expressed its support for ongoing national discussions on the proposed reframing of the General Education (GE) Curriculum, reaffirming the vital role of GE in holistic and values-centered education.
In a statement released on May 9, DLSP emphasized that while higher education must respond to technological change, new forms of work, and global realities, General Education remains essential in forming learners who are compassionate, reflective, and socially responsible. The organization underscored that GE nurtures ethical discernment, civic engagement, and cultural understanding—foundational to Lasallian education grounded in faith, service, and communion in mission.
Drawing from the teachings of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, DLSP highlighted the importance of forming lifelong learners equipped with critical thinking, ethical leadership, and meaningful engagement with society, beyond technical competence alone.
DLSP also reaffirmed the indispensable role of the humanities, social sciences, arts, and faith-based reflection in promoting social responsibility and commitment to the common good, especially in service to the poor and marginalized.
As the proposed curriculum undergoes further review, DLSP called for continued consultation and constructive dialogue among educators, students, policymakers, and other stakeholders, emphasizing the need for careful and inclusive transition processes.
In closing, DLSP reiterated that Lasallian education seeks not only to prepare learners for livelihood but to form individuals of integrity and service who contribute meaningfully to nation-building and societal transformation.
