Lasallians unite in prayer and begin the observance of the Lenten Season with Ash Wednesday masses held at the University Chapel.
Last March 6, DLSU-D held four Ash Wednesday masses which started at 7:30 am at the Junior High School. Masses were also celebrated by University Chaplain Fr. Mark Anthony Reyes at 12 pm, 3 pm and 5 pm.
During the masses, Lasallians were called on to become reconciled with God, to repent and believe in the Gospel. They were also reminded that in making acts of sacrifice such as fasting and abstinence, as well as in doing acts of charity, they must be careful not to make a show of their good deeds before people.
According to the Ash Wednesday reflection delivered before the mass goers: “True humility escapes detection. True religious devotion is directed only to God. True charity is a matter of giving without expecting anything in return whether this be in the form of public esteem or gratitude of those on the receiving end of our action. To give without compensation, to pray without expectation of results, to act without the desire of being noticed. These are the forms of humility and detachment. It requires that we focus on the goodness of our deed itself, on the correctness of our attitude and the purity of our intentions.”
