Today, May 15, 2025, DLSU-D celebrates the 75th anniversary of St. John Baptist De La Salle’s declaration as the patron saint of teachers today.
To commemorate the occasion, the Campus Ministry Office has organized a floral offering procession at the Rotunda at 3:30 PM, followed by a Eucharistic celebration at the University Chapel at 4:00 PM.
The event honors not only the legacy of St. La Salle but also the invaluable contributions of teachers and mentors in shaping the lives of all Lasallians.
As the Lasallian community reflects on this anniversary, may all educators be inspired and renewed by this prayer:
Prayer of A Teacher to St. John Baptist de La Salle
O Saint John Baptist de La Salle,
You were inspired by God to make it your mission to educate children and young people, especially if they were poor, by founding a teaching institute devoted exclusively to this purpose. I praise you for giving me such a high esteem for the work of education to which I have been called. You were convinced that no other work was so important for society as setting the younger generations on the road to goodness and learning.
Obtain for me from the Lord a deep conviction of the importance of the mission entrusted to me. Intercede with him so that I may have the special virtues needed to pursue it worthly and fruitfully: that I may have humility especially, so that I do not look enviously at positions which, humanly speaking, are more esteemed and better paid; and patience to make me endure the burden of each day's tiredness, the defects of the pupils and the incomprehension of those I care for so much.
May I be supported to the very end, through your powerful intercession, by confidence in God's promise: "Those who have instructed many in virtue will shine as bright stars for all eternity" (Dn 12, 3)
Amen.
