The La Salle Filipiniana Dance Company (LSFDC) of DLSU-D earned 2nd place at the 28th International Folk Dance Festival “Folk Harbor” in Poland.
In their 10-minute performance LSFDC highlighted the spirit of Filipino culture through vibrant rural dances such as Maglalatik, Binasuan, and Tinikling, and through the Cordilleran piece Banga Salidsid, which emphasized balance, patience, and resilience. According to festival guidelines, the group aimed to express joy, friendship, and everyday celebration—values deeply embedded in Filipino tradition.
“This victory means a lot for the group considering that this is the first European Dance Festival/Competition they've joined,” shared Joel Refuerzo, Coordinator of the Cultural Arts Office.
“Learning and understanding the culture of other nations gave them an inspiration to continue advocating the richness of our culture when it comes to traditional dances,” he added.
LSFDC spent seven months preparing for the competition, refining their performances to reflect the authenticity and artistry of Filipino folk traditions.
This marks LSFDC’s third international competition—and their first in Europe—all of which have earned honors for both the university and the Philippines. Their consistent success reaffirms that Lasallians can shine globally while proudly carrying the flag of Filipino heritage.
Animo La Salle!
