De La Salle University-Dasmariñas President Br. Iñigo Riola FSC has been elected as the new vice president of the International Association of La Salle Universities (IALU).
“I receive this appointment with humility because I know it is not really about me. I see it as a recognition of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas and of the good work that our faculty, staff, students, administrators, alumni, and partners have been doing over the years,” he said.
Br. Riola further said that his new role provides DLSU-D with more opportunities to contribute to the global Lasallian mission, as well as strengthen relationships and collaboration among Lasallian universities. This, in recognition of the spirit of openness, dialogue and cooperation that is needed to face global challenges in higher education.
“Every Lasallian university has its own gifts, and I believe DLSU-D has much to share. We have learned valuable lessons in environmental sustainability, service-learning and community engagement, quality assurance, internationalization, and in forming graduates who are not only professionally competent but also committed to serving others. At the same time, we know that we still have much to learn from other Lasallian universities around the world,” he said.
Br. Riola joins Josep M. Santos of La Salle-URL Barcelona, Spain, who serves as President, and Philippe Choquet of UniLaSalle, France, who serves as Treasurer. Together with Regional Directors and Council members, they represent the diversity of the Lasallian university network worldwide, including Br. Kenneth Martinez from La Salle Bacolod in the Philippines, Br. Paulos Mesmer from La Salle College in Kenya, Br. Manuel Orozco from Universidad Tecnológica La Salle in Nicaragua, Daniel Allen from La Salle Philadelphia in the United States, Luis Ignacio Salgado Fernández from La Salle University Oaxaca in Mexico, Christopher Sindt from Lewis University, Br. Cledes Casagrande from Unilasalle Canoas in Brazil, and Br. José Antonio del Coss Zorrila from La Salle University Noroeste in Mexico. On behalf of the General Council of the Institute, Br. Carlos Gómez, Vicar General, will continue to accompany IALU’s processes, while Carlos Coelho remains as Executive Director.
