De La Salle University-Dasmariñas has maintained its position as the top Philippine university in the GreenMetric Ranking of World Universities conducted by the Universitas Indonesia. It is also the only Philippine school that made it to the Top 100 after stringent screening and assessment by the body.
Based on the official list, DLSU-D had an overall ranking of 94th out of 719 universities that were profiled based on their sustainable practices on Setting & Infrastructure, Energy & Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation and Education & Research with a total rating of 6750.
According to the Environmental Resource Management office , the office in charge of developing and implementing the University’s programs and policies on environmental management and safety, ranking in the UI GreenMetric has become more challenging in previous years because of stricter requirements and additional criteria that universities should comply with. Universities should also submit proof of the indicators to support their application.
There is also a steadily growing number of world universities joining the ranks. From 619 schools in 2017, the participants now number 719 universities from 81 countries. This, according to the Campus Sustainability Office, makes them very thankful that DLSU-D has maintained its position in the ranking.
In order to maintain its position, the University continues to implement policies and measures that promote sustainability. It also continues to partner with organizations that promote zero waste lifestyle amid the growing problem of pollution around the world. Part of the University’s thrust is also educating its students on their role in reversing the impact of climate change and pollution to create a ripple effect from habits formed within the university such as garbage segregation, clean as you go, proper management of resources and respect for the environment.
