De La Salle University–Dasmariñas launched its first Catholic Social Thought Forum at the Br. Andrew Gonzalez FSC Reception Hall, gathering speakers to discuss the links between faith, justice, and environmental responsibility.
Guest speakers included Heidi L. Mendoza, former COA Commissioner; Jorge Buenaventura, Executive Director of the La Salle Botanical Gardens; and Fr. Warren Puno, Director of the Ministry of Ecology of the Diocese of Lucena.
University President Br. Iñigo Riola FSC highlighted the role of Catholic Social Teaching in shaping leaders grounded in integrity, compassion, and social responsibility.
“Catholic Social Teaching gives us our answer. We must defend human dignity. We must protect our common home. We must choose solidarity instead of indifference. And we must form leaders who will serve with honesty, courage, and love,” he emphasized.
He further noted that while academic excellence is essential, it must be anchored in integrity and compassion.
“Without a moral compass, knowledge can harm more than heal. Our mission is to form people who will think clearly, act justly, and love generously.”
Speakers emphasized accountability, environmental stewardship, and innovative approaches to educating youth. An open forum encouraged participants to further explore issues on poverty, corruption, and care for the environment.
