Museo De La Salle (MDLS) has officially opened the exhibition of the restored 17th-century Japanese folding screen titled “Sekigahara Battlefield Flag Regalia.” The 12-panel artwork shows the historic Battle of Sekigahara, which led to the unification of Japan.
The restoration took more than two years and was led by Master Conservator Ephraim “Eddie” Jose. His work brought new life to centuries-old artwork, making it safe for display and preservation.
The event was attended by Shigehiro Matsuda, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, who also met with University President Br. Iñigo Riola FSC. His presence highlighted the cultural importance of restoration.
This project is a major milestone for the DLSU-D Center for Heritage Conservation, as it is the first time an Important Japanese Cultural Property has been restored in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia.
After the exhibition at MDLS, the folding screen will be returned to the San Antonio Museum of Art in Texas, USA, where it is originally housed.
