On January 29, De La Salle University commemorated Brother Andrew Gonzalez, FSC — a distinguished linguist, educator, and visionary leader whose work shaped the Lasallian tradition of academic excellence and social responsibility. Serving as the university’s first president and later as Secretary of Education, Brother Andrew championed accessible quality education across the Philippines.
One of his lasting contributions is the Museo De La Salle, born from his vision to preserve Filipino heritage. Established in 1996 and inaugurated in 2000, the museum features important set pieces from the Arnedo-Gonzalez family, reflecting his dedication to safeguarding culture and history for future generations. Today, the Museo continues his mission, hosting educational tours, exhibits, and workshops that allow students and visitors to engage with Filipino heritage in meaningful ways.
Marking the 20th anniversary of his passing, the university honored Brother Andrew not only for his academic achievements but also for his faith, foresight, and commitment to community. His legacy continues to inspire Lasallians to honor the past while striving toward a better future.
