The De La Salle University–Dasmariñas (DLSUD) hosted KAPWA in Campus Life: Disability Awareness, Acceptance, and Allyship, gathering 89 student leaders for a meaningful conversation on inclusion and support for individuals with special needs, an initiative aimed at fostering a more inclusive university community held at Salrial Hall.
The event featured autism researcher and advocate Juan Alfonzo “Japhonz” Pulhin Dacumos of De La Salle University-Manila who shared insights on understanding neurodiversity and creating spaces where individuals with special needs feel seen, respected, and supported. His talk encouraged participants to move beyond awareness and practice intentional allyship in their daily interactions and leadership roles.
In his message, University Provost Dr. Christian George Francisco shared that the university currently has 57 students with special needs enrolled, reaffirming DLSU-D’s commitment to building a campus that values inclusion for all stakeholders. He emphasized that inclusivity is not just a program or initiative, but a responsibility shared by the entire community.
Meanwhile, Dr. Royce Salva of the College of Education (COED) expressed hope that student leaders would serve as strong allies for individuals with special needs. He noted that inclusivity does not always require major structural changes; rather, programs can be designed from the outset to be open, accessible, and welcoming to everyone.
Through initiatives like KAPWA in Campus Life, DLSU-D continues to strengthen a culture of empathy, shared responsibility, and genuine community.
