In celebration of the 25th year of the Language Learning Center (LLC) and in its commitment to provide language learning opportunities to our students, LLC launched Language Learning Sessions (LLS) last August 22, 2025. LLS seeks to promote and cultivate local and foreign language and culture.
Furthermore, to celebrate Buwan ng Wika, it was best to begin the LLS with a learning session on the Filipino language. Dubbed as LLS 1: Mabuhay! (Fil 101) and primarily intended for our new international university students, this learning session aims to make students identify, understand and use common and practical expressions when communicating in Filipino which will help them get familiar and comfortable in a new language environment.
Held at the LLC Room 1 last August 22, LLS 1 was participated in by our international students, in coordination with the International Students Association, through the assistance of the Office of the VP for Global Engagement and External Relations, and our Filipino students who signed up for the said session. Ms. Ma. Perpetua Amoncio, LLC specialist and faculty of the Languages and Literature Department, facilitated the session by engaging the students to use Filipino in simple conversations, understand local contexts through non-verbal cues and learn basics of Filipino culture as hospitality and politeness.
Indeed, the session also opened opportunities to initiate friendship, freely use the Filipino language, likewise English, and share Filipino food and culture. With a good feedback and student response, LLC is set to hold the LLS 2 come October with an international language as focus.
