The Center for Student Admissions, in collaboration with Asian Psychological Services and Assessment (APSA), Inc., recently hosted a discussion on the role of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in empowering education. The event brought together Basic Education administrators and select faculty to explore how SEL can enhance the academic environment.
Key Insights from the School Climate Survey
The discussion was led by Therese Amita R. De La Cruz, MA RGC, Vice President for Research and Training at APSA, Inc. She presented data from a School Climate Survey conducted with Senior High School students of the DLSU-D Basic Education Department. The presentation focused on the multifaceted nature of SEL, delving into various aspects of personality, including physical, social, psychological, and cognitive dimensions.
Furthermore, the discussion highlighted specific SEL competencies such as grit, growth mindset, self-management, self-efficacy, and self-awareness. The survey also revealed detailed scores across different School Climate Dimensions, providing a comprehensive look at the students' perceptions and experiences.
Future Steps and Educational Enhancement
An official copy of the study's results will be distributed to both the Basic Education Department and various colleges. The insights gained from this research are expected to contribute significantly to the continuous enhancement of Lasallian education, helping to foster a more supportive and effective learning environment for all students.
