DENR-EMB documents DLSU-D envi programs

De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) welcomed representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Region IV-A to the campus last week to document the sustainability and eco-friendly practices being implemented by the University.

The DENR-EMB IV-A team was accompanied by the Campus Sustainability Office team headed by Ms. Geraldine Zamora, on the tour of various areas on campus which included the PCH Laboratory classrooms, Nursery, Hotel Raphael, Lake, HRM Laboratory, Ecology Center, and key administrators' offices.

DLSU-D has been committed to promoting sustainability and eco-friendly practices for many years through its Campus Sustainability Office. The University has implemented various initiatives, including waste segregation and recycling programs, energy and water conservation measures, tree planting activities, and environmental awareness campaigns among students, faculty, and staff.

According to Zamora, Lasallians as advocates for environmental sustainability should recognize the importance of caring for the vital elements of the earth such as air, water, and soil, by internalizing environmental practices and creating a domino effect in the community, “we can strive to leave these elements in a livable condition for future generations,” she added.

In a separate interview, University President, Br. Francisco de la Rosa IV FSC expressed his gratitude to the DENR-EMB Region IV-A for recognizing the University’s efforts in promoting sustainable and eco-friendly practices in the campus. He also reminds the academic community on the importance of environmental stewardship, “As an educational institution, it is our responsibility to instill in our students the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainability, and we will continue to work towards creating a greener and more sustainable campus."

It can be recalled that DLSU-D was one of the regional winners of the National Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools (NSSES) Program in 2011 and 2019. The University is also an active partner of the agency in its drive to advocate for sustainability in the academe and operations.
