DLSU-D Students Engage in Sustainability Program in Indonesia

Two DLSU-D students, Ojji Blessan Villamar (CICS) and Bea Martha Mercado (CCJE), recently represented the university at the UMAP Discovery Camp Summer 2025 in Indonesia.

Themed “Exploring the Path to Sustainability: A Journey from Aceh to Jakarta,” the program is a joint initiative of Universitas Malikussaleh (UNIMAL) and Universitas Esa Unggul (UEU).

The camp immerses students in real-world sustainability issues aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In Aceh, participants explored SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and SDG 15 (Life on Land) through sessions on sustainable industries and the role of women in forest conservation—alongside rich cultural performances showcasing Acehnese heritage.

The second leg in Jakarta focuses on SDGs 2, 3, 4, and 8—highlighting themes of food security, health, education, and economic growth. Activities include media workshops, cultural tours, Indonesian language lessons, and museum visits.

This international experience fosters intercultural collaboration and empowers DLSU-D students to champion sustainability within local and global contexts.
